Pandemic Simulation
This is a multi-parameter and multi-agent interactive simulator that can be used to model how a virus spreads throughout a population. The problem with modeling a complex system is that it is usually difficult to come up with a model that accurately captures all the possible interactions and reveals emergent behaviour. The advantage of a computer simulation, like the one below, is that it allows one to see emergent behaviour in a complex system without having to ignore interactions between individual agents.
We are modelling 4 types of people: those who are not infected yet ., those who are currently sick ., those who have recovered . and are immune, and those who have died .. We graph a real-time time series below, which shows the number of people in each group. Actual person-person interactions can be observed below the graph. You can adjust multiple settings that will restart the simulation with different initial conditions.
